Meet Our Q4 Big Stage Challenge MVP!

The Q4 Big Stage Challenge brought the WYN racing community together over six weeks of training, racing, sharing milestones, and celebrating one another along the way. The engagement was incredible, and the stories shared reminded us that racing is about so much more than results. It's about the people, the progress, and the connections we make along the way.

This quarter's MVP embodies exactly that. Meet Nikki Thatcher!

After a year of major life changes and a return to triathlon following injury setbacks, she's embracing a new chapter filled with adventure, community, and some big goals on the horizon. From travelling Australia in a caravan to sharing race-day memories with her daughter, her journey is a reminder to appreciate the process and celebrate what makes this sport so special.

We caught up with our Q4 Big Stage Challenge MVP to hear what the challenge meant to her, the moments she'll remember most, and what's coming next.

Q: First up, congratulations on being crowned our Big Stage Challenge MVP! What did this challenge mean to you?

“It actually meant more to me than I expected!

This year has been a massive one personally. After 21 years of owning my hair salon, I closed the doors, packed up our life, and hit the road travelling Australia with my husband.

I've also had my fair share of injury setbacks, so getting back into triathlon training has been something I've really looked forward to.

The challenge came along at such a perfect time. It gave me something fun to focus on, a chance to connect with like-minded people, and reminded me just how much I love being part of this sport.

And honestly, I just had so much fun with it!”

Q: What was your favourite race or moment that you shared during the challenge?

“Definitely sharing the GC50 Half Marathon experience with my daughter, Lily.

It was her second year running the event, and she went out and smashed a fantastic PB! My own run was nothing spectacular, but that didn't matter one bit.

After the year I've had, I was just grateful to be out there doing something I love, sharing the experience with my daughter, and having Rob there supporting us.

Those are the moments that mean the most to me. It's not always about a PB or a finish time, but the memories and people you share them with.”

Q: Over the last six weeks, what kept you motivated to stay engaged with both your training and the WYN racing community?

“The people, without a doubt!

I absolutely loved reading everyone's stories, celebrating their achievements, and seeing how others tackle the challenges that come with training and racing. There's something really special about being surrounded by people who understand why we do what we do!

Training has also looked a little different for me lately. We're travelling full-time in our caravan, so I'm running in new places, discovering different parkruns, and even doing bike sessions on the trainer inside the van!

It's been about finding a new routine, enjoying the process, and appreciating that I'm able to train again.

The challenge made it even more enjoyable because I felt connected to the WYN community wherever we happened to be.”

Q: You've got some exciting goals ahead. What race are you most looking forward to next?

“Oh, I've got a few things up my sleeve!

My first big goal is Western Sydney 70.3 in May 2027, but the really big one is IRONMAN Busselton in December 2027. This will be my first full IRONMAN!

After being away from triathlon for a while because of injuries, I'm just so excited to be back training and working towards those goals.

I'm not in a rush. I want to build my fitness and strength back, stay healthy, and most importantly, enjoy the journey along the way.

And hopefully have plenty of adventures around Australia in between!”

Q: Finally, in a few words, what does being a member of the WYN Racing team mean to you?

“Community, connection, encouragement, and belonging.
Being surrounded by people who inspire you, celebrate your wins, and support you through the tough times. It's so much more than just racing!”

A reminder of what it's all about

From finding her way back to triathlon to sharing unforgettable moments with her family and connecting with athletes across the WYN community, our Q4 Big Stage Challenge MVP embodies what makes this team so special.

It's not just about the finish lines we cross or the goals we chase. It's about showing up for ourselves, supporting one another, and enjoying the journey along the way.

Congratulations again to our Q4 Big Stage Challenge MVP, and thank you to everyone who showed up, shared their stories, and made this challenge such a success!
